GHS Senior Esther Ubadigbo named 2024 Global Health Studies Marshal

April 1, 2024

We are proud to announce Esther Ubadigbo as the 2024 Global Health Studies Student Marshal!

Esther Oge Ubadigbo, a graduating senior from Des Moines, Iowa, is studying global health and biology, with a psychology minor. Throughout her time at Northwestern, Esther has demonstrated a commitment to community development, co-founding and serving as the president of Housing Security Collaborative, a student organization working to combat housing insecurity in Evanston.

Shortly after completing her first year, Esther started working in the Amato lab, studying how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted the skin and gut microbiomes of infants and their mothers. Her experience studying abroad in the former Yugoslavia and conducting archival research at London’s Wellcome Library gave her a better understanding of the sociopolitical and environmental reasons behind health inequities.

As part of her independent study project, “Historical Origins of Birth Traditions Among Black Mothers, Our Losses and the Restorative Power of Black Birth Workers”, Esther trained as a doula and explored the role Black birth workers play in curbing the maternal mortality crisis. She looks forward to pursuing a masters degree in environmental development and policy before attending medical school.
